Government Advisors meet at Boothby Wildland to discuss Landscape Recovery

Last week, it was our privilege to host representatives from DEFRA, Natural England, the Environment Agency and The Forestry Commission. Among our guests were Chair of the Forestry Commission - Sir William Worsley, Chair of Natural England - Tony Juniper, Chief Executive of Natural England - Marian Spain and Director of Operations Midlands at Environment Agency - Norman Robinson

The purpose of the visit was to showcase and discuss Landscape Recovery - a DEFRA-funded programme for farmers and land managers who want to take a more ambitious and large-scale approach to producing environmental and climate goods. It aims to fund landscape-scale projects through bespoke, long-term agreements for 20+ years.

Boothby is one of 56 projects in the funded project development phase - and the first to be ready to progress towards implementation. Our guests took the time to hear presentations from Nattergal and fellow Landscape Recovery project, Upper Duddon, before touring the wildland.

During the visit we were able to demonstrate our Nature recovery work first-hand, showcase the value of Landscape Recovery funding as part of our blended finance model, and evidence our contribution to the Government's 5-point plan:

  • to clean up rivers, lakes and seas;

  • to create a roadmap to move Britain to a zero waste economy;

  • to boost food security;

  • to ensure nature’s recovery and

  • to protect communities from the dangers of flooding

We had some very fruitful discussions and we look forward to sharing our Landscape Recovery updates in the coming months.
